WEEE Directive
The Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive came into force in January 2007 in order to help reduce the amount of electrical waste being produced and encourage the reuse, recycle and recovery of e-waste. Digital Links is fully compliant with the WEE directive and we currently do everything possible to minimise our impact on the environment.
Digital Links recycles any piece of IT equipment we collect but cannot reuse in line with our 0% landfill policy and we organise collections so that vans are used to their maximum capacity. When we ship computers our partners overseas, we use the most environmentally efficient means, sea freight in full containers.
When a business produces waste, for example redundant IT equipment, the business has a range of responsibilities to ensure that this equipment is treated and recycled. The Legislation seeks to encourage collection, reuse, recovery, recycling and environmentally sound disposal when required. Companies who opt for a proactive approach to embracing the Legislation in innovative ways, such as through reuse for educational and developmental programs in Africa, are not only complying but exceeding environmental requirements in a socially responsible manner.
A professional and established IT asset management company can help businesses comply with the legislation and, through partnership with Digital Links can provide incredibly valuable PR and CSR opportunities. Through Digital Links and our refurbishment partners a large number of organisations are utilising the positive PR that can be gained from publicising both their green credentials and their contribution to capacity building, e-learning and market development in Africa.
